About

Hi there!

It’s so lovely that you wanted to get to know me—it truly makes me happy! Thank you.

Since I was a kid in the 1980’s I always found comfort in my room—making things, acting, and goofing around to entertain my “dopamine-hungry” mind. I’ve realised now that I am a creative at heart; my life has always been brimming with ideas and a drive for expression.

However, once I was thrown into social interactions, it hit me that I might be different. But, perhaps like you, I just assumed everyone else struggled with the same feelings.

Career-wise, I’ve jumped around a bit. I started as a structural/architectural draftsperson in Sydney for five years. After a burn out, I studied accounting, qualifying as a BAS Agent and eventually earning a degree from Charles Sturt University.

My lovely wife, Fyona, was one of the rare people who truly saw my creativity and my interest in filmmaking. She helped me build a business around it. PipeWolf Media was originally created just so I could gain enough experience to land a job as a videographer, but instead, the business grew and became a much better alternative to a traditional career!

Running a business has only been successful because of Fyona and the support of people we know. We’ve been working busily for the last ten years, but that decade also exposed some underlying hurdles. Those “hiccups” eventually led to uncovering some undiagnosed mental health issues.

Looking back at twelve years of school, a four-year apprenticeship in structural engineering, a business finance degree, and ten years of running a company, it’s quite surprising to come to terms with all the struggles I had pushed through. Because of that, I decided to share my journey, hopefully help normalise some of my pain and struggle. I don’t think my story is “special” per se, but I remember how seeing content from others who felt the same way made me feel sane and seen – I like to think about it as adding my voice to the choir.

I hope you get something out of what I share. Please know that you are worth all the joy this world has to offer. Be your unique self and join in the fun of being quirky!

Thanks for reading!

Dave

P.S. You matter too!
